The text is all filched from my notebooks, appointments, colour specs etc. I loved Basquiat’s early Warhol collaborations. But what did Andy think when he saw a nice logo he’d drawn covered in hip street language? “Er, very nice…you’ve actually drawn over everything… But. That’s. Fine.” They look nice as T-shirts as well. What’s the point of wearing a T-shirt everybody understands?
As mean as they come; but not without a sweet side. I did a couple of these sinister faces when I was watching Any Questions one night. One of the many Brexit-frenzied audiences which inspired these grumpy old gits.
But the title is from the unreasonably gifted Tom Waits, whose last line from 9th and Hennepin (his tale of a teenage pimp war) goes: “I’ve seen it all through the yellow windows of the evening train.” How can he be so good?
